beginning descent

after all it is not possible
under shadowy clouds I fly motionless
my nostrils fill with heat
the sun never felt closer
I approach it as an equal

long veins run through the belly of
the translucent glittering strip that is a river

ink running on a page
we are after all on the same level and
circles and squares interlock so neatly

as my lungs slowly empty then fill
I am watching the wings I am falling asleep I am
forced to be still as the
small frozen worlds below me
fall; after all
